As I sit in the quiet of a rustic cabin, enjoying the brief solitude while my children take their children for a walk around the pond, I can reflect on this recent "crisis" in government. We have a compromise reached at the last minute; perhaps that is the way compromise must be reached. In this case the fiscal conservatives have shown the power of the last election, and perhaps we will alter the path of deficit spending slightly.
Many, on both sides, feel they have been betrayed. Has the advent of instant communications, and governing by opinion polls led us to all or nothing positions? I hope not. It will be interesting to see where we go with the balanced budget amendment.
