Scott Adams,
of Dilbert fame, has an interesting post on communication between Conservatives
and Liberals titled How
to Persuade the Other Party. I
think his observation of the difference of basis for a position has some good
points. Basically, he says a Liberal’s basis
of support is fairness, while a Conservative’s comes from a moral belief. Because the two groups have different
foundations their arguments are not generally persuasive to the other. I recommend it as a short read.
