How Can You Tell a Politician is Lying?

We are coming up on a midterm election to fill a state house seat vacated when our elected official resigned in lieu of a possible censure. Of course he did this because he was completely innocent but was being persecuted by those nasty South Florida Democrats and he was trying to save others from having to go through this. The fact there was a possible upcoming criminal trial had absolutely no bearing on his decision.

There was a Republican primary leading up to this election, and it solicited a field of about a half dozen candidate. The winner raised the better part of $500K (including a couple of self loans for about $100K). His reason for running was to bring attention to the need for jobs in the district. He made a big point of his not being a professional politician, and said he only intended to serve two terms and then return to private life. His altruism touches my heart....
